THE MISSION
 
The world today is very complicated, often confusing and increasingly demanding. With ever increasing specialization, we need to know more and more about less and less and all this at the ‘speed of thought’. At the same time we cannot lose the bigger picture nor lose a grip of powerful undercurrents. We are deluged with information and as a result have to wade through inconsequential and often distracting communication. NewsVision has been conceived with the user in mind – to empower him so that he can leverage the knowledge with minimal distraction and maximum application. Our credence is brevity, speed and focus. We straddle retail, fashion and luxury – our area of competence.

THE STORY
 
The Retail Vision Group was formed in Mumbai in 2001 as a loose, casual and informal group that met to exchange views and experiences of a new industry just appearing over the horizon - retailing in India . As the Group became larger and the deliberations more serious, it was decided to circulate a newsletter. The first newsletter was typed on Mr.Vinod Kaul’s personal computer and circulated for economy and efficiency by e-mail to 32 persons. It was a one page Word sheet giving news summaries and perspectives and an update on new technologies and practices. The newsletter was simply called ‘Retail e-Letter’. It was an instant success and subscription requests poured in from near and far. The year was 2002 and the month February. Retail e-Letter had become India ’s first exclusive retail communication.

As the circulation multiplied, the newsletter became an important communication channel for The Retail Vision Group to reach out to retail practioners, corporates, Government, students, consultants, media, observers, visionaries. They came from all levels from Chairman and MD’s and entrepreneurs to the middle rank managers as well as the green-horns and the students. For the first two years all efforts were voluntary and non-profit. In 2004 a revenue model was put in place and the entrepreneurial efforts corporatised under RVG. In 2007 the initiatives of the founder were re-organized under the NewsVision banner.

Today NewsVision spans retail, fashion and luxury and e-communicates multiple Journals through the internet to a large subscriber base which exceeds 80,000. Over five million contacts are made annually. A portal supports the Journals, permits archiving and provides other services to readers.

THE FOUNDER
 
NewsVision’s founder, Vinod Kaul is a marketing post-graduate in business (PGDBA) from IIM, Ahmedabad and a graduate from St.Stephen’s College, New Delhi . He has over thirty years of hands-on experience in retail and fashion. This includes senior positions in major Indian groups such as Bata, DCM Benetton, Raymond, Birla, Tata and eight years with retailing groups in Canada .Mr.Kaul was also Executive Director of India ’s fashion apex body, the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI). He is a frequent speaker at various fashion and business institutions and seminars. He enjoys racquet games, cross-country running, and sky-diving.
